According to Union power minister Sushilkumar Shinde, an additional power generation of over 100,000 MW is expected during the 11th five-year plan period.
Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of Reliance Power`s 300 MW project at Butibori near Nagpur on February 22, Shinde said the earlier projection was that the additional generation would be about 78,000 MW.
But, after including output of independent power producers and that of renewable power projects and other sources, it was found that an additional generation of over 100,000 MW could be achieved during the 11th plan period.
The country is presently having a shortage of 30,000 MW while Maharashtra is facing shortfall of 5000 MW, he said.
The orders for equipment needed to produce 90,000 MW have already been placed with the manufacturers, he added.
1000 MW Mouda Power Project coming up near Nagpur will be the first plant of NTPC in the state. The state can look forward to get 450 MW of the total capacity of 1000 mw of the plant, he said.
